School Registers

The HEC had collected a large and varied number of old school registers and log books which we had saved from being thrown out. They’ve now been lodged with the City Archives. The list is given below.

These can provide a wealth of data for genealogists researching their family history. Where not otherwise stated, the book is an admissions register. Most of these registers include admission dates, dates of birth, parent name, address, last school, date of leaving and where the child goes to, i.e. other school or country etc. The log books contain information about the day-to-day running of the school, including special events etc.

Please apply to the City of Edinburgh Archives who have promised public access.
